Rankin Bass's Smaug is highly underappreciated. He's far more imaginative from Peter Jackson's version and in my honest opinion also more menacing if you've actually seen the movie.

That keyhole shaped pupil was specifically designed for Smaug to make it look distinctive from every other reptile eyes, when you see it for the first time. It was designed by John Howe.
