I wouldn't go so far as to call Oniisama E 'better' than Utena specifically, but it is a spiritual predecessor - a lot of its themes are directly picked up by Ikuhara, so it is an incredibly interesting and resonant watch for Utena fans, I'd say. IT IS ALSO JUST REALLY GOOD.

For Utena's 10th anniversary, I took on a massive project to screencap the entire series for the gallery. I even pieced together panned shots...by hand. I cleaned the awful DVD transfer as much as I could. I worked for months.

Then Ikuhara announced the series remaster.

Vanitas no Carte's premiere takes a page out of the book of Kunihiko Ikuhara with folklore narrated over uncanny visuals before diving into the show. I believe the narrators voice is even the same as that of Utena's though I'm not 100% sure. Brilliant either way.
