I was on a road trip in Italy when I parked the van in the middle of the night on top of a cliff in Umbria. This is my memory of what I saw in the early morning when I woke up...

'A large winged creature emerged from the ruin, they thought it was a cockatrice and fled in panic. But John Tallentire took a rowan branch, stabbed the creature through it’s heart, and killed it'.

A 'hob-thross' lived in Millom Castle. He slept by the fire during the day, and worked all night, doing the chores the humans didn’t want to do. One harsh winter he was offered clothes, a terrible insult to a hob-thross, so he left!

But, like the lonely snowman, I can still enjoy the view!
And with our access to stunning scenery on Ynys Môn (Anglesey) and in Cumbria (the setting for the Lonely Snowman), as well as in Cheshire, that feels like a privilege as well as a joy!

Memories of Cumbria. Felix and Oscar. Hidden away together in the middle of the middle of Penrith Beacon. A bit of a favourite.

Rebecca Vincent
Northumbrian print maker.
She’s a popular artist. I found this one at the Biscuit Factory Gallery in Newcastle . It’s more than a gallery as good food is available too.
