Day 19 of library closure. To celebrate Leonardo da Vinci’s birthday here’s a flashback to a year ago when I was helping prepare some of his notebooks for exhibition. We used a non-adhesive mounting method using a Melinex window to hold the folio in place.

Looking forward to lunch with "The Lost Hokusai" on ALL ARTs ch 144 on cablevision, 1276 spectrum.
In "The Lost Hokusai," conservators use digital technology and traditional techniques to reproduce an 1845 Hokusai painting that was lost in a fire in 1923.

Very cool

I now have a due by date that I have to complete conservatorship. I need travel money well before June to go there and come back plus whatever.

If you've already helped me, hired me, or if I've donated to your cause in the last three months you don't need to do anything extra.

Today is also and we'd like to remind out there to take at least as much care of themselves as the objects they look after. (Preferably more.)

We really recommend giving our well-being episode a listen, by the way: https://t.co/ZjOjqGnAH9

We talk about the ‘ick factor’ of fluid specimens, visitor enjoyment of (and reactions to) collections, and how natural history has become kind of sexy again. Curious? Tune in here: https://t.co/4f112UsRMc

Our conservators have been working with students to practice different techniques of historical painting. All of their "copies" mimic techniques artists used to create works in our collections. Here you can see the early stages of recreating "Red Mullets" from printouts.
