Today marks the start of the "Dog Days" of Summer in the Northern Hemisphere. It's the 40-day period from July 3 through August 11 when Sirius --- the Dog Star --- rises and sets with the Sun. Sirius is part of the constellation Canus Major or the Great Dog.

South Africa 🇿🇦 just set a new record for the highest minimum temperature (31.7°C) in Vioolsdrif in April for the ENTIRE Southern Hemisphere.
The same location also smashed the April national record by a full +1.1°C. The record is now +44.8 °C (112.6°F).
Today 13 April made history again in South Africa. With a minimum temperature of 31.7C #Vioolsdrif set the highest minimum temperature ever recorded in April in the whole Southern Hemisphere. The max. of 44.8C pulverized the national monthly record of 43.7C.
