For #SpongeThursday, here's a look inside a juvenile sponge! 🧽
The choanocyte cells (and choanocyte chambers) are labelled with a red fluorescent dye, and nuclei are labelled in blue.
I made a bunch of "Phione"s for other Mythical Pokemon. In Order: Meul, Celene, Jirene, Nucleis. (1/2) #Pokemon
"The Denuded Nuclei" - Some of the most common cytomorph features that I've used over the years to dx "ACINIC CELL CA" of the salivary glands - Perivascular nesting, granular to vacuolated "histiocyte-like" cytoplasm, BARE NUCLEI and a characteristic background granular coating.
This low grade fibromyxoid sarcoma has rosettes (hyalinizing spindle cell tumor with giant rosettes) - H&E diagnosis! Note the hyperchromatic nuclei and compare their appearance to that of the endothelial cells!
Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia APML, micro-/hypo-granular variant. High TLC with abnormal promyelocytes (blast equivalents). Nuclei “coin-on-coin” bilobed or “angel-wing” appearance. No Auer rods. +ve for t(15;17) by FISH (no image).

10 yo 👧w parotid mass.
🔴 Secretory carcinoma (MASC):
☑️Circumscribed, lobulated growth pattern with fibrous septa
☑️Uniform nuclei, distinct nucleoli, and eosinophilic cytoplasm
☑️Microcystic, tubular, follicular and papillary architectures
🔔FISH: ETV6(12p 13.2) gene rearrang.
Nobel winner for asymmetrical shapes of certain atomic nuclei, James Rainwater was #OTD in 1917! Find out more about him and his career in his Physics History Network profile: https://t.co/k2gA1PIYVU #PHNfacts
First 'massive' collisions since 2015! Heavy lead nuclei (208Pb) are colliding to study heavy quark production in this dense nuclear environment.
(Figure shows the fragments of the collision emerging from the interaction point, traversing the particle detectors.)
Sparkplug: Kinda neat how you Transformers and us humans use the same acronyms with different meanings.
Ratchet: I guess you could say that. R&R, CADRE, CNA...
Spike: What's that- cybernucleic acid?

What does DUF61 do?
The 1st structure in the family https://t.co/rFbujTnN4I, shows similarity to nucleic acid binding proteins. https://t.co/7W1kyhxBPG was used to identify similar proteins.
Phoebus Levene was born #OnThisDay in 1869. He published a paper in 1919 @jbiolchem showing nucleic acids are linked via the phosphate group.

Follicular dendritic cells. Paired, often squared nuclei. Small central nucleolus. More "delicate" than centroblasts
