Like people blame Image for it, but Vertigo and a lot of publisher weren't better. Image was a teenage action darkness, Vertigo was more of a bitter teen mad at the state of the world darkness. Edgy but different types of Edgy, many of these books are good just saying.

meta knight in smash is so funny cause sakurai always portrayed him to be this serious kinda anti-hero who's really edgy, flies the halberd, just generally hardcore

and then in all the modern kirby games and marketing material he's just like, a funny guy :)
