Zhuangzi's poem "Dream Butterfly" reminds me a lot of the series Dream Butterfly. My theory says that The Butterfly is Rin's soul (due to symbolism) that carries Setsuna's conciouseness. If Kirinmaru is gone, so is the Butterfly, and in extension Rin.
