It's all about "picking" the right values. Nose Study
I think I need to do more studies before full portraits. My portraits felt a bit flat to me, need more value and structure practice.#itiswhatitis

On 26/5/2019 I attempted my first speedpaint. It took three hours. Not that fast but a good exercise in values, and basically established the style I’d use most from then on.

Got a black saturation layer over everything so I can check my colour values, and also an additional light and shadow layer. I phoned in the distant background a bit, but I think it's really coming together??

My characters name is Mason.
He lives with his friends instead of his family, and he uses his wind powers to defeat bad guys. He's fast paced and sarcastic at times, and hes very naive so most of the time he ends up helping his enemies. He values being free and living life!

Dirty "trick" to make your portraits look more alive:

Paint subtle saturated colors - I like reds and golds - in the shadows (B)
instead of having everything the same-ish hue/color as in portrait (A)

(Values are still most important, tough!)

I got commissioned to paint this man, he's Polish and is inspired by Makai Knight. He's very strong, powerful and a selfless knight with a kind heart that strongly values innocent life. ✨😊

Another thing Concrete Revolutio does very well is capture how the most terrifying thing about America is that it can commit atrocity after atrocity and never once stop seeing itself as being heroic and its values universal.

exercise to see values in colors :D
This was super fun to do and realle helped to develop an eye to see correct saturation and value without using grayscale first :3

Another two sketches, 40minutes before sleep. Starting to have more control with values🤔

They like to leave the world a bit flexible for the players to enjoy in their own ways. They like it when players make things up. Shit, they even canonized Draenei lore because of player creativity.

Finally...Man, I'd really encourage you to read Blizzard's core values.
