for this piece, the AI didn't seem to pick up on the individual characters at all. it basically just put a filter over the piece without actually affecting the lighting all that much. also a couple parts look straight up janky

Same principles apply to different coloring techniques, for this one I had a semi cell-shading style, notice how depth detection works a LOT better with well defined blocks of color. I'd spend more time on the parts where the light doesn't have a big effecting area.

I started with a pencil drawing and blocked in colour with the airbrush and then used a paint brush for the details. I went back over parts of the painting with the airbrush again to darken the shadows. I had fun but definitely need a bit more practice with the airbrush.

Bugs //

So dragonfly larvae have extendable mouthparts that act kind of like an elephant’s trunk to bring food to the mouth opening. Can’t decide if this is very cool or very awful.
