#OnThisDay in 1857, Joseph Paton Maclay, 1st Baron Maclay and chairman of the shipping company Maclay & Macintyre, was born. After the death of two of his sons in World War I, Maclay gifted what today is Maclay Halls of Residence to the University in their memory.
