there was lots of discourse 14 years ago about whether it was funnier to take Garfield out, or just take his speech balloons out. I reject both, and require them to just be silly either way.
If there is one thing about making comics digitally that I dislike more than anything it would probably be adding speech balloons.
Don't know how to describe it, except it somehow always feels wrong no matter what and how I do them.
Never had this feeling then I did it on paper.
