I feel like the person who wrote this 1871 Printer's Handy Book of Specimens had a lot of fun.
I'm drawing playable races at different ages to flash out world-building, so players can see more than just the peak phisical specimens of each race. This is the lates one: Half-Orcs. [OC] via /r/DnD https://t.co/gEUXPZiCKV #DnD #rpg
Back from "break" to Week 4 of #UnnaturalHistory! This week we talked about scientific expeditions + fieldwork in "extreme" environments, from the tropics to the Arctic. We discussed hierarchies of knowledge production, the movement of specimens + the "burden" of science.
Some favorite French monogram specimens from my latest book with @thedailyheller, Vintage Graphic Design.

Drepanaspis
An odd looking jawless fish that is usually compared to a frying pan, unlike most members of its family its mouth was placed in front instead of under it
ALT: its one of the best studied genera of its family with several well preserved specimens, it has 6 species
Cotylorhynchus is the best known of all the giant caseids with complete remains from C. romeri with 3 meters, and the bigger C. hancocki from San Angelo Formation with varied fossil specimens, some that once belong to an animal that reached its 6 meters in length.
Beautiful engravings from "Select Specimens Of Natural History, Collected In Travels To Discover The Source Of The Nile, Egypt, Arabia, Abyssinia and Nubia" by Scottish explorer, travel writer & draughtman James Bruce (1790). https://t.co/Ja9mlIgGLg #ExploreYourArchive #Nature
We hear there is a #SuperbOwl 🦉 coming to Tampa Bay & everyone is excited. Well, good news! We've got quite a few fine owl specimens in our upcoming exhibition "Artists for Conservation International Exhibit of Nature in Art", opening March 13 😉

Geosternbergia
A large pterosaur with a 7.25 meter wingspan, its mainly known from female specimens, and in fact its believed to be a female pteranodon instead of its own genus
ALT: believed to be a geosternbergia synonym, this makes both likely to be pteranodon synonyms
Drew this Drepanosaurus~ ✨ With a hump back, large index claws, chonky tail and a tail claw they are definitely some of the most interesting bone specimens of extinct reptiles that I've ever seen~ 🦴🦎✨
Something cute, fluffy and still living for a change. Paucidentomys, the earthworm-eating, nearly toothless rat from Sulawesi, and Cuscomys, the mysterious chinchilla rat of Machu Picchu. Both known from very few specimens, either very rare, very elusive, or both.
Unknown skies beckon
We collect wild specimens

In probably the most wholesome video we will ever make, I show off my little fossil museum in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The fossils in this game are really well done, and there's some surprisingly obscure specimens!

The #BigGardenBirdWatch starts this week so we have been doing a spot of twitching on our bookshelves for #RareBookOfTheWeek. What about these beautiful specimens from the 'Feathered Tribe of the British Islands' (1834)?
Thrilled to join @terryagates & @DinosaurJoe in describing new specimens of Parasaurolophus that FINALLY reveal how that iconic tube crest is actually built. These are the specimens I’ve been dreaming of since grad school- it’s an awesome day.
My name is Ayuko Mikami. I’m a freelance illustrator love to paint children and nostalgic sights. Painting is the way to observe the world for me. The pictures I painted are specimens of the world I saw. I love to draw & paint💖

It's #FishFactFriday!
We met this "fish" in last week's episode...FUN FACT: Pachyrhachis Problematicus has been giving scientists exactly as much trouble as the name implies. There are only 2 known specimens, & no one seems to know just where in the fossil record they should go!
I've just finished a couple more #palaeobotanical illustrations; an #Araucariostrobus (bar 10mm) and an #Araucaria (bar 20mm). These are based on cone specimens presented in Kunzmann et al, 2004, from the Crato Formation.
