We use outlines to make up for the lack of depth in an illustration. I omitted them on the fairy, because she is a light source.

It's a trade-off. No outlines means planning values and hues to create contrast everywhere you need edges.

Although I do like using Illustrator for my sketches it does take a good bit of time for my work to come out, having to create custom shapes for the shading then putting an outline layer over it is very time consuming, I'm gonna start to look for alternatives for my work.

So I've outlined the backside of my fursona and just colored with my rabbit's color scheme with additional ones. Basically, it's mostly finished-ish, but I have yet to flesh out a fuller model sheet with expressions and all that so this quick ref sheet should do for now.
