personally i prefer to just do skin and other stuff with one layer (like this one) since it looks more natural but for a sunlight glow a luminosity/overlay layer does really make a big difference

like uhh here's that comic without the gradients, and then the gradient at 100% no overlay. it just makes it kinda moodier i guess. and the gradient follow the up-down dark-light theme
