Another way to play with focus without using a blur filter is the way Canete does with linework here. He fades/tapers off the details & lines into nothingness.

It serves to both push the reader’s focus into one area while including a distinct light source blowing out details.

Some more info:

Their tails are long, heavy and flexible and allow them to grab trees as well.

Their diet mainly consists of frogs and insects which allow them to gain a little moisture before they return to nearby waters

Obviously, this is silly and very unserious. :)
