Because the story is themed around smoke and industrialisation (both historic and the present) I needed the book to have a heavy charcoal texture to represent the need to escape the effects of the smoke.
I wanted to push myself and take on a new direction/style from my last book.

According to headwriter Evan Stanley, the comics have a canon gay couple: Nite & Don, who were introduced in the 2020 Annual story “Darkest Hour.”
