Gengar and my "embrace" pic are closest I have to purple theme. I normally think something soothing when I think purple (I default to a lavendar color), so I guess that's why these seem calmer.

I don't think it's meant to be alternate coloured, they just used the palette they're used to using for the random Gengar but decided to update it to match most modern material for the important one. Washed up Gengar's been a thing since forever and the anime just caught up

Honestly, I think Gengar might be one of the best possible choices for Smash right now. Not only is the popularity clearly there (it’s Pokémon of the Year, after all), it’s also extremely relevant (playable in Pokken, owned by Ash, major character in Rescue Team DX)

This might be really petty of me, but… Am I the only one who isn’t a fan of the colors on Ash’s Gengar? It’s just, I dunno, too “soft” for my liking. The darker contrasts for other Gengar just really sell it as a shadowy figure. Like, what point do the alternate colors serve?
