I was attracted by his style too, and many Japanese were so too. Ruro-ken was really turning point of Shonen Jump. Realistic style was majority before it on Jump, and it changed to anime-like style after it.

The transition between these two volumes feels like one of the biggest leaps between Araki art styles since Part 4. Something happened this year (2006) that made Araki update to more realistic proportions.

Wonder if it had something to do with the Rohan at the Louvre?

Gabriele Dell’Otto also draws the middle line on the chin, it is really distintive (besides his recognizable style). Sometimes it looks weird but For realistic renders it helps to delineate the face, I think it works really well especially in the resilient suit
