I think it’s hilarious that not only did they design Spider-Man’s suit to be black but used blue highlights which made people think it’s blue leading them to make it canonically blue, but they did it twice!

it's def highlights cuz if u look at the shiny blue (works w/da nite setting lul) and match it up with nene's sprite, that's the shiny stuff rite dere!! if it was hair clips then it'd be pretty visible with the lineart instead of it lookin like hightlitez

Hue shifting is when you adjust the hue value of a certain color for shadows and highlights. Here's two examples of shading a blue ball. Notice how on the right example, the shadow is closer to purple, and the highlight is closer to teal, making it more visually interesting.
