I don't know if Kazuki Takahashi ever confirmed the inspiration for YuGiOh, but in 1981, there was a text-based computer game called Zork.
This this interesting because:
-It's an RPG played like Dungeons and Dragons
-Zorc is the name of the main villain in YuGiOh

2007 - Mass Effect
2007 is the year where too much good shit happened in the gaming industry. the fact i have to pick one is a crime. Mass Effect offered a ton of promise, great music, and bioware touches that overall redefined alot of how story RPGs worked.
2013: still in the process of actually playing this (i never have less than 3 RPGs going at once it's a bad habit) but i like getting caught up in the maze a lot
