I had a similar issue. Try looking at things like military uniforms or even school uniforms (Raidou Kuzunoha) or even idol-type outfits to see how to accessorise, then add practicality to it, stylise it.

A drawing of a kid is a stylised version of a real life child as that is where the inspiration is taken from. as you can see from the picture provided this is instantly recognisable as a child and therefore it is not a real kid but made to look like one. Now answer mine.
