The tone/mood of Sombulus is overall optimistic and happy, so I use brighter colors and energetic poses design. When I want to shift a scene to be more serious/reflective, I'll reduce the palette and add a lot more breathing space.

@BigBerserk surprised me with a series of portraits. Not since Van Gogh has the art world seen such a stirring, reflective, and - yes - scientifically accurate depiction. I weep.

A horrible creature able to enter an individual’s mind while they sleep, learning their deepest fears... and recently has been able to enter into mirrors and other reflective surfaces to travel.

This week is Kassadin! He’s likes singing too much. His reflective skin distracts him, which blinds his eyes.
His bio is my wishlist. Plays the persona of a greedy items coveter.

I painted a metal texture to the "eye lines" added some lights to the webs.
Then I painted a quick city landscape, with a sky inside the eyes, and added some lines, played with layer modes to make it more like a reflective surface

In January I released a self-reflective solo journaling game where you draw over your reflection in a mirror as you examine your (or your character's) past. It's called Stare Back and you can get it on my new updated webstore for a couple of quid.

'Reflections: China and Japan' ~ William Orpen (1902).
Orpen was a close friend of Hugh Lane to whom he was also distantly related. This work is a virtuoso still life painting which demonstrates Orpen's facility at depicting texture and reflective surfaces with flair and skill.
Photo reference is vital to recreating the look of certain materials, but sometimes I find it useful to see how other artists have handled it.
Almost like they use a different equation to solve the same problem.
