OC/AU concept art for both my friend’s Monster Sci-fi RP group and another friend’s Monster of the Week TTRPG. Some new OC faces are Germanicus the absolute bitch vampire and Shiki the half-oni monster hunter Buddhist nun (under construction)

Ryu's stance is a pretty standard fighting stance. Akuma's stance is the one referencing Buddhist statuary. The Street Fighter Zero/Alpha games are where his in-game sprite got a unique idle stance. In many other games he shares the standard "shoto" stance.

BTW you wanna know why Akuma/Gouki keeps his mouth shut almost all the time? It's a reference to the Nio statues that stand guard at Buddhist temples. They come in pairs representing life and the beginning (Agyo/Ryu) and death and the end (Ungyo/Akuma)

12/18. His movements are so precise. He's brimming with both RAGE and DISCIPLINE! The solid form of a master karateka. The curled fingers of a wrathful Buddhist deity! And look at how that one 1-pixel red eye is just barely visible! ITS SO GOOD TT____TT.

11/18. What more can I say? Every single frame of this animation is an amazing standalone work of art. If someone sculpted this, it would be one of the most beautiful works of Buddhist art ever made.

Hisuian Growlithe is likely inspired by Komainu (狛犬), mythic guardian lions from Buddhist cosmology that often protect the entrances to temples and shrines in the form of statues. Awesome design! I love it!

Benzaiten is a Japanese Buddhist goddess who originated from the Hindu goddess Saraswati. She arrived in Japan during the 6th through 8th centuries, mainly via the Chinese translations of the Sutra of Golden Light. Benzaiten is a syncretic with both Buddhist & Shinto aspects.
