Why is aging Goten and Trunks properly such a huge deal?

First image: ages 7 and 8

Second image: Trunks at age 14

Third image: ages 17 and 18

Fourth image: ages 14 and 15 (or 13 and 14)

Not aging them hold them back as characters and has made me like them way less.

Ah, now I get why Trunks looks so weird. In his usual designs, his eyebrows are almost always attached to his eyes (like Vegeta's, although Trunks' are rounder). The only times his eyebrows would be detached (like with the Son family) is when he'd be extremely happy.
