Over time I learned that I can use brushes to get the textures. :) Focus on shapes and silhouettes first.
It's still practice in progress but it's better than what I was doing before, I think. Of course feedback is always welcome :)

People aim to hate dither to try put down some game systems in comparisons/discussions, but, it is a very smart tool to blend shades and create smart textures. Strong machines that's handle tons of colors on the screen use it too.. it's an artist tool, a good example:

Finally JKO. The playable folder only contains her ball and some textures. That's it. Her body is contained within the story folder but is somewhat dark. They definetely need to tweak the textures a bit to make her fit with the rest ofthe cast in matches (if they plan to add her)

I figured I'd use the reset of my short break to do something wildly out of my usual style... I went with the white-mixed colors I usually avoid because of how unpredictable they are when layered, used my cheap gouache flat brush to get streaky textures...
