For my last weird western I'll mention Bone Tomahawk (2015), which tells the gruesome tale of some cave dwelling cannibalistic troglodytes who are tracked down by a reluctant sheriff (Kurt Russell) & his posse. The film creates its own bleak western mythology. 7/7 #WyrdWednesday
Ravenous (1999) is a dark comic horror tale set in the Sierra Nevada mountains at a remote military outpost during the late 1800s. It combines Wendigo folklore & the unfortunate history of the Donner Party, a group of American pioneers who commited cannibalism. #WyrdWednesday 6/7

Trees play an important part in #JapaneseFolklore. In Shinto they are considered sacred and are believed to possess a spirit. While Totoro from the Studio Ghibli film is a fictitious character, it was no doubt inspired by the animistic beliefs of Japan.

Both aberrations (basically Lovecraft monsters) in D&D's lore, Aboleth and Ilithid represent two sides of the same coin. Aboleths represent an ancient foe from when the stars were new, while Mindflayers represent a foe you may yet become: both control minds. #WyrdWednesday #DnD
The gaming industry has spawned a number of notable artists. Both Brom and Tony DiTerlizzi came to fame as the key artists of specific D&D settings (Dark Sun and Planescape) and went on to touch other fields; Tony is more famous now for the Spiderwick stories! #WyrdWednesday #DnD

Asteroid Ceres is named after the Roman goddess associated with agriculture, fertility, motherly relations & funeral rites among other things. Astrologers equate her placement in our birth charts with our nurturing qualities & how we process grief, etc #WyrdWednesday #AsteroidDay
