The tomato’s name, Solanum lycopersicum, could be viewed with suspicion. Not only does lycopersicum translate as scary ‘wolf-peach’ but the Solanum family also includes henbane (Hyoscyamus), deadly nightshade (Atropa) and mandrake (Mandragora)
