Beta Mantine:

Mantine's typing of Water & Flying makes a lot more sense once you've seen his original design from Gold & Silver's 1997 demo -- which was named Haneei, "Winged Stingray."

Beta Bellossom:

In Gold & Silver's 1997 demo, and even in early official artwork, Bellossom was purple. Further reading on why she was later changed to green: https://t.co/fgUXbmjeP1

Beta Hitmontop:

In Gold & Silver's 1997 demo, the original Hitmontop design had a bizarre upside-down anatomy. But he was later revised into a design who's just simply standing on his head.

The Samurai Showdown franchise released back in 1997 a dark JRPG called Shinsetsu Samurai Spirits. The enemy design looks especially interesting, based on Japanese folklore.
