Claremont and DeMatteis pulling this Ben/Alicia/Norrin love triangle in tandem... ugh.

When you're a basic nobody in a Chris Claremont-written book and you get named, prepare to die.

Influence is difficult to substantiate in any medium, but here we have a fairly concrete example of Claremont’s creative works directly informing stories and storytellers in an entirely different medium and for an entirely different generation. 7/7

In the Classic X-Men backup story "First Friends" Claremont finally fills in one of the most notorious gaps in his own X-Men continuity: the initial cultivation of Ororo’s friendship with Jean. 1/8

I became a Wolvie fan with the Claremont/Miller limited series. I loved the idea of a fallen samurai trying to restrain the beast within him. I also miss when he was vulnerable and had to claw his way back up after a bad defeat.

Outside of a handful of issues, this relationship is by no means paramount and largely plays out in the background, but it shows Claremont’s capacity to define and advance consistent character relationships that builds off continuity in complex ways. 10/11

“Well, guess what? The books started to sell, I got these incentive plans in there, people started to make big money, Claremont makes big royalties, buys his mother an airplane and so they were happier with me. They started to realize the value.” 6/11

We can see such representations in a few key instances throughout Claremont’s runs on different series, such as when Captain Britain’s track suit is shredded by a car crash in the pages of “Excalibur,” or when Sam goes into battle with only a towel on in “New Mutants.” 4/7
