@crowkids Claremont and DeMatteis pulling this Ben/Alicia/Norrin love triangle in tandem... ugh.
When you're a basic nobody in a Chris Claremont-written book and you get named, prepare to die.
Influence is difficult to substantiate in any medium, but here we have a fairly concrete example of Claremont’s creative works directly informing stories and storytellers in an entirely different medium and for an entirely different generation. 7/7
@TelepathicBunny @LordWordfab @Ron_Christian55 @HeatherAntos @EthanVanSciver Hey Bunny and Norm ... Mutant Massacre was my era and peak storytelling... if you DM me I’ll send you a rough of “Tales of Zero”’ ... I’m not Claremont ... but I did learn from the best ... if you like my writing please help spread the word! ☮️👍PS13
@CBNostalgia @FightOnTwist @RandyS0725 @WolverSteve @WhoWouldWinShow @GeekToMeRadio @MikeSchmidt09 @MrNiceGuy513 @CBKcast @wehaveahulk I became a Wolvie fan with the Claremont/Miller limited series. I loved the idea of a fallen samurai trying to restrain the beast within him. I also miss when he was vulnerable and had to claw his way back up after a bad defeat.

The interaction of the two franchises would taper off significantly once Claremont left NM after issue #54, but for a good number of years the two franchises existed as part of a deeply integrated X-Universe. 8/9
Claremont also, notably, builds a lot of NM stories around Illyana’s conflict with her demonic history, a history that was, of course, first seen in the pages of UXM (and the Magik miniseries). 5/9
Fan studies is an emerging discipline in the academy, and concepts such as Gee’s “affinity spaces” hold the potential to help us understand the back and forth relationship between Claremont’s UXM and the fan cultures that formed around it. #xmen 1/9

Outside of a handful of issues, this relationship is by no means paramount and largely plays out in the background, but it shows Claremont’s capacity to define and advance consistent character relationships that builds off continuity in complex ways. 10/11
“Well, guess what? The books started to sell, I got these incentive plans in there, people started to make big money, Claremont makes big royalties, buys his mother an airplane and so they were happier with me. They started to realize the value.” 6/11
In the build-up to a S.H.I.E.L.D./Magneto coalition battle against Zaladane in the Savage Land, Magneto’s past comes back to haunt him in a catastrophic yet symbolically poignant way that adds nuance and complexity to Claremont’s most famous character-reversal project. #xmen 1/7

We can see such representations in a few key instances throughout Claremont’s runs on different series, such as when Captain Britain’s track suit is shredded by a car crash in the pages of “Excalibur,” or when Sam goes into battle with only a towel on in “New Mutants.” 4/7
