I was pleased to find artist Joseph Crawhall,(1861-1913) because he was born in Morpeth Northumberland and I used to live there and loved it. Father was a Wood Engraver. His son painted this horse well.

Clifford Webb (1894-1972) was one of Britain’s foremost wood engravers and illustrator of children’s books, but today his work is often overlooked. Many only know him for his illustrations in Swallows & Amazons. Hopefully this will change when we publish this in March.

The Crucifixion of Christ by Tintoretto in San Cassiano. John Ruskin described it as, "the finest in Europe". It’s actually based on a print by the Dutch philosopher and artist Dirck Coornhert, made from a design by Maerten van Heemskerck, who made many designs for engravers!

Happy Birthday to Northern Renaissance painter and engraver Albrecht Dürer, who was born in 1471.
In 'Melencolia I' (1514), Dürer pictured an allegory of the creative melancholy of the artist, and this engraving has often been interpreted as a symbolic self-portrait.
