All these little veins are vents; i don't want air bubbles to get captured in the curvy bits so the vent lets air escape. I'll probably pour it with a slower-setting resin to give air time to escape, too.

First of all, I often hear that traditional drawing is harder cuz unlike digital drawing it has no layers. In fact, you can make your life easier with a piece of transparent plastic or glass and a lamp. Or window and duct tape. Or maybe you have money for some fancy light pad.
