They appear shortly after the Yellow Beings, they move through the buildings in the town more delicately, capturing people seemingly at random.
Think of them as remora to the larger beings.
They all appear after the mass of tentacles forms in the sky, so same origin.

From what I can tell i think the classic DT had, like, a split personality? her head 'spins' in her helmet and she has one sweet personality, and one seemingly evil one? So DT maybe ... in the comics was always switching sides based on the dominant personality?
