Give them different backstories, interests, areas of expertise. Make 1 the Thing X Specialist and 1 the Thing Y Specialist, have 1 married and 1 single, etc

What's the *reason* I need 2 characters w/these traits, instead of reusing the 1st one? Lean into that.
