I had to create a "pizza map" texture to mark out how fast the player's movement should be limited eating different parts of the pizza, the alpha channel is linked to movement speed and the colour is used for the particle effect colour (the base/cheese are at 1% alpha here)

Oh and this is totally a problem with OG looneytunes too. The HBO shorts did pretty good to capture that mix of styles. I can't really fault them for trying either... but the movement away from 'realism' helped LTs stand out and look more unique.
