1. Find the shapes that are most characteristic in the person.
2. Simplify those shapes and exaggerate them
3. Replicate the shapes that you saw. You can exaggerate as much as you want.
4. Draw with those shapes as your guide.

Yeah, Leyendecker is great! He draws kids being cute without it being saccharine. I think the way he draws gangly limbs helps exaggerate the pose to look more childlike
