Ugly Paint Test. This is usually how I start to see which templates I can layer to make a look. This is bec making a hoodie doesn't mean we choose hoodie. Most times, everything is just many dress layers since it has the most adjustable values.

I used a little dragon I doodled previously, but added some fun stuff to it. Used a pattern overlay on the wings, but had to cut and paste the wings onto different layers and then merge them once the pattern was added. Then played around with the background and voila!

Well, apart from fixing the textures, it only remains to do the rig and the pose, layers and make animation with the character

Outer lining (Optional)

At this point you can group all your layers, make a duplicate and merge the second group so that you have a back up.

With the merged layer you can liquify any mistakes and add an optional outline to make your emote more visible when small.

Shading

Now the fun part.
Lock each layers transparency and begin shading with a soft round brush to create a darker gradient from the bottom of each layer. Then with a hard round brush fill in the shadows. DO NOT over do the gradient.
Add highlights where needed. And done.
