Personal bias but i prefer when shoulder pads are leaning towards the upper arm rather than just the shoulder alone or popping upwards.

I just think makes transmog looking better when they go with the flow of the gloves.

I do something similar too (although its mainly to get the divisions for box braids), and you get more control than with this method, than vertex groups.
