... and Beck delivered a bitter response under a prophetic pseudonym: Troll. Beck later turns up as a character in André Gide’s “The Counterfeiters” and when the writing dried up he became a salesman for Sunlight soap, before dying of tuberculosis in 1916 at the age of just 37.
