Lost Pokemon of the Day: Gorochu

First revealed by Game Freak developers in a 2018 Japanese newspaper interview, Gorochu was planned for Gen 1 as Raichu's evolution, but was cut due to a lack of cartridge space.

Gorochu was stated to be cut due to balancing, so Pikachu and Raichu were all that was left in the final game. However, with the games' sequels, Gold and Silver, the evolution line would return to having 3 stages. With Pikachu gaining a pre-evolutionary baby stage named Pichu.

In July 2018, an interview with Pikachu's creator, Atsuko Nishida, stated that she was told to create an Electric-Type with two evolutions, with the final form looking strong and not cute. That second evolution would be a cut Pokemon named Gorochu.

Além de Pikachu, Atsuko também desenhou Raichu e a, famosa na web no ano passado, evolução Gorochu, que acabou descartada na versão final, para balancear melhor o jogo. Também são designes dela: bulbassauro, charmander, charmeleon, charizard, squirtle e wartortle.

Anyone remember when Raichu was supposed to evolve and then that got scrapped for Pichu?

Glad we have Pichu, but maybe someday we'll get that lost Gorochu in some form.
