Signaal signaal! It's Rembrandt's birthday! It's a subject on which I am almost speechless. The ambitions he brought to art were so ORIGINAL! He was great, deep, strange, fluent, emotional and - above all - different! No one like him before. No one after. These are my favourites

2/2 Rembrandt's mother. He loved her! Apparently she was also beloved by Sebastian Stosskopf, and it's his day.

All great artists drew a lion or two: Rembrandt's lioness devouring a bird combines careful study with vigorous execution, seen especially in the freely-drawn hindquarters. A nice contrast to Rubens's monumental lions, both studies for paintings (Daniel and Samson)
