Albrecht von Haller (1708 – 1777) was a swiss anatomist. A pupil of Herman Boerhaave, he is often referred to as "the father of modern #physiology." In 1757, he conducted a famous series of experiments to distinguish between #nerve impulses and muscular contractions.

The greatest anatomist of his era, he dissected this shark head and proved the link between shark teeth and fossils. He also formulated the fundamental laws of geology...all by the age of 30, just to make you feel like a loser.

Edinburgh surgeon Andrew Fyfe was born #OTD 1752. Fyfe was an exceptional anatomist & illustrator, although was described by Sir Astley Cooper as “a horrid lecturer” (Illustration from 'Anatomy of the Human Body', 1814)
The fascia that separates the prostate and bladder from the rectum was described in 1836 by French surgeon and anatomist Charles-Pierre Denonvilliers (1808-1872). It’s an important structure in prostate and rectal cancer surgery. He also described the puboprostatic ligaments.

Alexis Littré (1654-1726), a French physician and anatomist, described a hernia containing a Meckel’s diverticulum (Littré’s hernia). He also described the mucous urethral glands of the male urethra (Littré’s glands).
