its weird that tigrex despite being a very basal member of the wyvern family lacks the overlaping shells/plates that its other "close" relatives have, and then you have barioth which comes from a derived group has them while his "close" relatives lacks them.

- possibly being the most basal known dromaeosaur! It was also small, even for dromaeosaurs, at 70 cm long! With all this in mind, it might've been specialized for a unique ecological niche that allowed it to coexist with its more advanced relatives! (2/2)

An armored dinosaur from Queensland, lived ~130mya during the early Cretaceous. It and its other armored counterparts from and Antarctica may form their own family, but for now they are all considered "basal" ankylosaurids.
