Of the characters in this story, Biwa is fictional, but the others were real. Shizuka, who saved Biwa, was one of a group of women who were called shirabyoshi. Shizuka later gave birth to a son of Yoshitsune, the warlord who destroyed the Heike clan.
#TheHeikeStory is an incredible anime. I highly recommend watching it.

Lake Biwa, as many will know, is Japan's largest lake. Localized entirely within Shiga Prefecture, Biwa takes up 1/6 of that prefecture's territory. It's also estimated to be the 14th oldest lake in the world.
