Like everybody else in the world of science, I've been having fun exploring the database of AlphaFold structures. Here are (subunits of) a few proteins that show up often in my paintings. It (amazingly) gets all the bits and pieces right, but doesn't quite yet get the biology.

The unfolded protein response balances production of proteins & lipids in the ER. Väth, Mattes, Reinhard, Ernst et al show that proteotoxic ER stress & lipid bilayer stress converge in a common, signaling-active transmembrane architecture of Ire1 https://t.co/oHTZs5RtDR

Bacteria It is a proteobacteria bile-resistant, with pleomorphic cells due to an irregular cell wall. It is associated with a diet high in animal proteins and fats.

There are 195 new PDB entries in this week's release - and it's red hot! This structure of an RNA aptamer from the Chili plant, bound to the chromophore DMHBO+, creates a fluorescent complex that mimics proteins like GFP. Find all new entries at https://t.co/54E03LeH5m

'Ground substance' is the unlabelled background to most biology diagrams.
It's mostly water turned to jelly by glycoproteins and it plays a vital role in exchanging gases between cells and blood, preventing tissues from being crushed or impeding the advance of bacteria.

Senku's hypothesis is that petrification uses the metals that exist within the body to create a hard stone layer. The phase change comment is about all the liquids etc present in the body turning to stone (like freezing water to ice). The diagram? Could be proteins and graphite.

So, I love ramen. But since my childhood days, I have broadened my horizons and actually like cooking it over simple microwaved noodles. What kind of proteins and toppings do you add to yours? So far, curry ramen is my favorite.
