I did it. Also I figured out how to turn off scanlines. In the end this would have cost me about 3 dollars in continues.

Once more with woohoo! I feel the Third Strike Sprite actually benefits from scanlines more than the CVS sprite! Something about the way the colors are laid out. It's more painterly, less sharp than the CVS sprite!

i also made up another version, the spookygen. Fake crt scanlines on the screens but *real* crt shaders in the eyes and mouth for some really creepy effect. worlds with bloom let it illuminate wildly.

Now this reminds me of the OSSC with both horizontal and vertical scanlines enabled :D

(also means I need to rewrite a bunch of graphics handling stuff, so that more than just Game Boy and more than just this shader look good <.<)

Even a comparison in M88 between scanlines-on and no-scanlines-on does the trick. On an RBG monitor, PC-88 graphics would have blended somewhat, but not to the degree of filters used in some emulators. Note the dirt texture subtly changing between modes.

Nothing beats the real thing, but man oh man this is the best scanline emulation I've ever seen. The difference it makes for PSOne games is SHOCKING. These portraits were absolutely optimized for scanlines!

I applied the pattern to a layer above the enlarged sprite art. Then I set the layer to "Soft Light." The final effect is a bit too dark and saturated at the moment, but I think I'm off to a good start!
