Feathered tyrannosaurs? Some (like Dilong & Yutyrannus) have been discovered with fossilized feathers. But, skin impressions from large, more advanced tyrants only reveal scales. Aside from sample size, 1 theory for why is "gigantothermy".

Yutyrannus is the largest dinosaur with direct evidence of plumage found so far. It lived in a much ealier time and in a more chillier place than rex did. I like this art by Gabriel Ugueto bc it shows that tyrannosaroidea had those hairy puppet fibers.
