some final notes... atmospheric lighting will greatly affect not just the color palette you're using but the overall mood of the piece. i intentionally looked for less saturated and muted colors, and the cool blue tone is a reflection of the colors of the wall in the background.

Found a few more class notes. The first one explains the importance of working in black and white, which makes it easier to learn lighting and value. The last two are examples of taking the same scene and re-lighting it to match different moods. Fun exercise, give it a try!
