John Bauer's works are rooted in the mythic realms of the Swedish forest in winter, scattered with stars & deep in snow. He led a brief & violently romantic life. When he died in a shipwreck at 36 in 1918, newspapers claimed that forest spirits had taken him by sinking the ship.
