Another trick for strong panel composition is to think in terms of foreground, middle ground, and background, instead of *just* foreground and background.

Look at how Milt Caniff creates depth in his panels with this technique.

Howe's compositions are so good. One of my all time favorite scenes from the Silmarillion, rarely has good art (imo) because they always take 1 metaphor and blow it out of proportion (Morgoth looming like a mountain or something) but Howe's "fingolfin's challenge" is amazing

At first, my idea was to paint this series in gouache but I was so hesitant and opposed me so much resistance that I began to postpone them indefinitely. So with the "excuse" of doing a rough color test, I started to compose my values and colors.

An extraordinary 'lost' opera composer. She was an unapologetic disruptor, a non-conformist – & a problematic bigot. As her opera enjoys new acclaim, Beverley D'Silva explores the "scandalous" life of a complex, unstoppable radical https://t.co/zci4mzfm5l

This is one of those scenes that gets the drama by on drawing alone. Pose, detail, even the composition of the background. Kimiko’s solid chunk of green, vs Noriko’s bright light flowers. And it’s held for a solid few seconds.

My comfort zone is to add a bunch of flag/banner and soldier to enhance the composition 👌

Rainy days call for cozy floral compositions. 🌧☔️
Also, it kind of reminds me of album cover artwork for tranquil music.

Today’s painting: fiddling with colours at the campsite. Kinda dull composition. Colours are Faber-Castell watercolour pencils
